Syrah (Shiraz)

 Known as Syrah in France and the old world and Shiraz in Australia, this grape produces Medium-Full body red wines with high tannin, medium acidity and
black fruit flavours of blackberry, black cherry with black pepper, liquorice spice
and when aged in oak the addition of vanilla and coconut.

IMPORTANT REGIONS:
Northern Rhone in France and Australia.

EXAMPLES OF WINES:
Northern Rhone - Medium bodied reds with fresh black fruit: blackberry and
black pepper spice.
Australian Shiraz - Full bodied red with, Jammy black fruit: black cherry and
liquorice spice.

CHARACTERISTICS:
Cooler Climate - Dry, Medium Body, Medium Acidity, High Tannin, Fresh
Blackberries and Black Pepper.
Warm Climate - Dry, Full Body, Medium Acidity, High Tannin, Black Cherry
Jam and Liquorice.
Fermentation or ageing in oak add aromas and flavours of vanilla and coconut.
